This is an excellent table and definitely worth the money – utter bargain. It affords a total work surface area of 0.1824 m2 – more of which later. The surface is very easy to keep clean, which is a bonus as I routinely deploy this for Matt when we are watching telly and he is a very messy eater.I shouldn’t judge given his disabilities following the accident but I think sometimes he’s just playing on it as he doesn’t even try to keep his dinner in the bowl. However I have yet to find any foodstuffs that have permanently blemished the surface.Matt is more than capable of spraying food about like a muck spreader and, given his penchant for things like spaghetti bolognese and lamb bhuna he certainly puts this to the test.I figured, given Matt’s omni-directional mouth (coupled with his habit of laughing, shouting abuse at the telly and eating all at the same time), that this product would certainly take some punishment.Basically if you imagine Sloth out of The Goonies and Norm off of Cheers got spliced together by that teleportation machine in The Fly, then imagine that hybrid eating large quantities of curry without cutlery and you’ll get the picture.I was expecting to have to use some type of bleach or paint stripper to decontaminate the surface, or possibly a pressure washer but it turns out that anything Matt can splatter onto the surface simply wipes up with normal wet wipes or a bit of washing up liquid on one of those sponge thingies with the bit of brillo pad on one side.I haven’t had to resort to using anything abrasive to clean it yet so it gets my recommendation. As for the aforementioned surface area of 0.1824 m2 or 0.218145841 square yards, it is ample for one of Matt’s feeding frenzies. To give a frame of reference, Matt normally will have at least one starter like chicken shashlik, a rice, onion bhajees, samosas and pakoras which usually take up a total surface area of 0.084 m2 as they normally come in 14cm x 12cm industry standard foil trays. Then add another 0.02 m2 for a main course it still leaves an ample 0.0784m2 for his naan bread, poppadoms with pickles, some Pringles and a 2.5 litre bottle of pop (which is usually Pepsi as Nab from the curry house throws it in for free and I don’t drink pop myself).Anyway the point is that this table is an ample size to fit most of it on so long as you eat it all out of the trays and aren’t bothered about plates or anything fancy like that.I don’t know how much all of that weighs (I could work it out but maths was never my thing) but it is certainly sturdy enough to cope with one of Matt’s snacks. I don’t know where he puts it all really but that’s beside the point – and he is quite chunky these days but it’s not like he can go jogging anymore. The table is described as “Neutral and versatile to compliment all home décor” and, as much as I think this product is an absolutely bargain, I can’t imagine it adorning Blenheim Palace or Belvoir Castle. In fact I can’t imagine His Grace would use this at a formal function, and if I went round to visit Emma and David and they asked me to eat off this I’d presume I’d done something to give offence.Besides I’d never take Matt to Belvoir anyway as I would not wish to embarrass them, or myself for that matter. It does fold up so it is highly portable, thus rendering it ideal as a standby table for the help when visiting, and it is certainly good enough for Nanny and the staff to use below stairs, whether eating off it or changing baby.In short it is a good table, but I doubt it will adorn any stately homes in the foreseeable future.
